"By aligning our behaviours to our identity, we make choices based on who we believe we are." — Nir Eyal
As coaches, we often guide clients through goals, habits, and strategies. Yet beneath every action lies a deeper question: Who do I believe myself to be?
When identity leads, behaviour follows.
- A coach who sees themselves as a guardian of transformation will naturally protect space for deep listening.
- A coach who identifies as a creative catalyst will choose practices that spark imagination.
- A coach who believes they are a steady guide will design rhythms that foster trust and continuity.
The danger comes when we chase behaviours without anchoring them in identity. We post daily because “consistency matters,” but if our identity is “a coach who speaks with resonance,” then posting only when truth is alive in us is far more aligned.
Reflection for this week:
- What identity do you hold most strongly as a coach?
- Which behaviours flow naturally from that identity?
- Where are you forcing behaviours that don’t match who you believe you are?
Coaching is not about performing tasks. It is about embodying presence. When we align behaviours with identity, we stop reacting to external pressure and start living from internal truth.
So this Monday, pause.
Whisper to yourself: "I am the kind of coach who…"
Let your week flow from that identity.
